The Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja has established a Thai Corner at the University of Abuja, comprising a display book shelf, books, and E-books on Thailand’s history, culture, foreign policy, diplomatic relations, language, tourism, and cuisine. The Thai Corner is located in a designated corner of the University’s Main Library and serves as a learning centre on Thailand. On 18 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Thirapath Mongkolnavin, Ambassador of Thailand to Nigeria, presided over the handover ceremony of the Thai Corner, which was attended by Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, as well as faculty members and students.

 

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed the Embassy’s intention for the Thai Corner to serve as a space for learning about and exchanging knowledge on Thailand, promoting educational ties, and fostering greater mutual understanding between Thailand and Nigeria. The initiative is also part of Thailand’s efforts to promote cooperation under the Thailand-Africa Initiative (TAI). Established at a time of growing momentum in Thailand–Nigeria relations, particularly following the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to Nigeria in August 2026, the Thai Corner is expected to contribute to closer cooperation between the two countries across various areas. As Thailand and Nigeria will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027, the Thai Corner will serve as another meaningful platform for further strengthening the longstanding friendship and ties between the two countries.
